Mary Mees, LAc, DAOM
Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine
Mary Mees, L.Ac., DAOM, has been practicing Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine for 20 years in Newport Beach, Santa Barbara and now San Luis Obispo County on the Central Coast. She enjoys collaborating with patients to assist them on their journey towards ultimate health and wellness. As a California primary healthcare practitioner, her philosophy is to get patients healthy and back on their feet in as little time as possible. At a time when healthcare has taken a backseat to profits, Dr. Mees is trying to buck this trend by providing caring, affordable and effective care to each and every patient.
She received her Bachelor of Holistic Science and her Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine degree from South Baylo University in Anaheim, CA. She subsequently earned her Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine degree from Emperors College of Traditional Oriental Medicine in Santa Monica, CA. She also served in a DAOM Fellowship on the Acupuncture Team at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles, CA, treating critical care patients in the ICU and CCU. Additionally, she served an adjunct professor for 9 years at Cerritos Community College teaching medical terminology classes.
Dr. Mees followed her calling to acupuncture and Oriental medicine when a family member became ill with cancer. Searching for alternative health solutions led her to the National Institutes of Health Consensus Statement regarding the efficacy of acupuncture. After learning that Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine is one of the newest primary care professions in the United States and that the benefits of acupuncture have become widely recognized and integrated with mainstream healthcare, it became clear to Dr. Mees that her mission is to help as many people as possible to achieve their purpose through vitality and wellbeing.
The primary reason Dr. Mees decided to implement Integrated Light Therapy into her practice is because LED Light Therapy is simple to use, non-invasive, with a long-standing history of therapeutic benefits, and it combines ancient wisdom with the best of today’s technology.
Dr. Mees married her husband Tom Mees, a local REALTOR in San Luis Obispo, in April 2016. Together they have 7 children, 12 grandchildren, and 5 step grandchildren. They love to travel, play golf and pickleball, hike, and cook, since her husband is the former owner of Farley’s Family Restaurants in San Luis Obispo and Arroyo Grande.
